Buckaroo Banzai Nuon Pop Ups

Nuon, according to Wikipedia, is a technology developed by VM Labs that adds features to a DVD player. The Buckaroo Banzai DVD was one of the few DVDs released utilizing these extra features. Nuon died out rather quickly as only those DVD players with the NUON technology could take advantage of those features, as noted in the image below.

You can see the Buckaroo Banzai Nuon Features in action here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U61F5bL-i6w.

NUON Vidi: "Gadgets" Timecode selects

Running time: Approx 2:40

HOUR ONE

05:41:00 - 06:02:00 (:23) Text: The OSCILLATION OVERTHRUSTER (a scanning device capable of locating empty grooves in solid matter) is installed in it's gyroscopic alignment cradle.

12:57:20 - 13:18:00 (:21) Text: This is Lizardo's crude, home made Lectroid Long-Term-Memory-Recall Coil (LTMRC). DNA was recovered from the device and is now being studied.

40:05:10 - 40:18:18 (:13) Text: The Go-Phone was a cellular walkie-talkie developed by the Banzai Institute in the early 80s.

HOUR TWO

13:32:00 - 13:45:09 (:12) Text: The President's traction machine is a Nelson CR-79 orthopedic corrector, affectionately known as "The Human Hamster Wheel."

19:10:20- 19:22:05 (:12) Text: Long-playing Lectroid hologramafone (stereo model) & prismatic viewing goggles.

22:17:12 - 23:04:00 (:47) Text: The Shock Tower or (for humans) a full-body lie detector. Lectroids actually derive great pleasure from sitting in this device and refer to it as "The Chair of Delight."

30:21:16 - 30:29:13 (:09) Text: Buckaroo's homing device is an experimental, infra-red GPS unit.

32:20:08 - 32:33:18 (:13) Text: The Snott Monster is self-propelled by a mucous locomotion system, guided electro-chemically towards it's target.

37:45:26 - 37:56:24 (:11) Text: This Lectroid flight suit also doubles as a zero-g harness.

NUON Vidi "Jet Car" (Approx 5:10)

:00 - Masterminded by Perfect Tommy, the Jet Car was the first vehicle in history to travel through solid matter. Honest!

:15 - Capable of speeds in excess of 700 MPH, this 6000-pound behemoth carries 48 gallons of automotive fuel, 200 gallons of jet fuel and a killer 8-track tape deck.

:35 - This was the first 100% successful test of the OSCILLATION OVERTHRUSTER, seen here being installed by B. Banzai. In recent years it has been used as a can opener at the Banzai Institute while a few minor kinks are being ironed out.

1:15 - The Jet Car made for the film was a real, working Jet Car with a real-life jet engine built into the back. Don't try this at home.

1:40 - These flames are real and NOT some cheesy special effect. Don't get too close to the screen - you may burn your nose.

2:10 - These scenes were filmed on the dry lake bed at El Mirage in Southern California (a very popular spot for car commercials). Dust devils tend to appear around 3pm.

2:30 - The vehicle you see here is a replica of the real Jet Car (kept under lock and key at the Banzai Institute). The prop car made for the film was designed by Production Designer Stephen Dane and built by drag racing specialist Jerry Segal.

2:50 - The Jet Engine pumps out 12,000 pounds of thrust!
3:00 - Under the hood, the prop Jet Car was heavily modifiied and capable of speeds over 150 MPH.

3:25 - The footage you see here is also NOT a cheesy special effect. It's the cheesy REAL-LIFE footage taken from the cameras of the real Jet Car as it drove through the 8th dimension. The forces exherted on the car were so strong it cracked Buckaroo's helmet!

4:20 - A 16' military cargo parachute provides the bulk of the stopping stopping power for the Jet Car. Nitrogen cooled ceramic discs and carbon fibre brake pads will give you a little extra.

5:00 - The Jet Car's conventional engine (for street driving) runs at 1,120 horse power!
