Synopsis

Expect the unexpected… he does.

Neurosurgeon. Physicist. Rock Star. Hero. Buckaroo Banzai (Peter Weller, Robocop) is a true 80s renaissance man. With the help of his uniquely qualified team, The Hong Kong Cavaliers, Buckaroo is ready to save the world on a moment's notice. But after his successful test of the Oscillation Overthruster – a device that allows him to travel through solid matter – he unleashes the threat of "evil, pure and simple from the 8th Dimension"… the alien Red Lectroids.

Led by the deranged dictator Lord John Whorfin (John Lithgow), the Lectroids steal the Overthruster with the intent of using it to return to their home of Planet 10 "real soon!" But no matter where you go, there Buckaroo Banzai is… ready to battle an interdimensional menace that could spell doom for the human race.

How can Buckaroo stop the Lectroids' fiendish plots? Who is the mysterious Penny Priddy? Why is there a watermelon there? For the answers to these and other questions, you have to watch The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai, monkey boy!

Featuring Ellen Barkin, Jeff Goldblum, Christopher Lloyd, and Clancy Brown, Buckaroo Banzai is a cleverly crazed cult classic as only the 80s could deliver.

DETAILS:

Synopsis:YOUR ONLY HOPE IS BUCKAROO BANZAI

From the writer of Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Big Trouble in Little China comes a pop-sci-fi adventure that defies convention and went on to become one of the cult hits of the 80s.
Peter Weller is Buckaroo Banzai, a physicist-neurosurgeon-martial arts master-secret agent-rock star who has just made history with his invention, the Oscillation Overthruster. The Overthruster allows him to travel to the 8th Dimension, but this feat draws the attention of the Red Lectroids, an alien race (led by Christopher Lloyd) who have teamed up with Banzai’s nemesis, the deranged Dr Lizardo (John Lithgow). Lizardo and the Red Lectroids are seeking the Overthruster to take over the world and Banzai, with his team of agents/band musicians, The Hong Kong Cavaliers, must stop them before it’s too late!

With strong references to sci-fi and pop culture that span Thomas Pynchon and Orson Welles, Buckaroo Banzai is a film made by fans for fans and counts filmmakers including Wes Anderson and Kevin Smith among its admirers.

Oddities

There have been reports of a Russian bootleg of The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, which has been dubbed into French.

A Spanish Buckaroo Banzai? According to Shawn Taylor : "Calling all Blue Blaze Irregulars in the Southern California area... My friend recently sent me a pirate "Spanish" Buckaroo Banzai video she purchased somewhere in east LA at a Mexican video store. It came in a black plastic box with a very poorly copied cover insert with a cut and pasted looking Spanish title. The tape inside doesn't even have a label, and is not in Spanish, but it is absolutely the BEST copy of the movie I've found! It's much better than my old official release copy. Looks and sounds wonderful. I haven't had time to watch it all the way through yet, but I'm hoping it's this good all the way through. I've asked her to forward the name and address of the video store (and send me an extra copy!). Meanwhile, be on the look out..."
